Advent Calendar 2023 – Nativity Scene
Maria’s Robe (B)

I had actually chosen pattern 137 from Openwork Needleweaving Patterns, but then I had doubts whether it would match the Röserich pattern of the dress.

So I work with copies again and back the corresponding area with different patterns.

My choice is pattern 80 from Openwork Needleweaving Patterns.

The sleeve should have a small pattern that matches the Röserich. Rose stitches (coton à broder No. 25) are worked into the limet grid (3:1).

The outercoat is still missing. Since its surface is very narrow in some places, a thread withdrawing of 2:1 is used. The resulting grid is also embroidered with Rose stitches.

The other side of the outercoat remains unembroidered because of the very small areas.

Now all that’s left is the borders on the hem edges. They are decorated with witch Herringbone curved lines (coton à broder No. 16).
(Find further information about Curved Lines in my book Schwalm Curved Lines, Narrow Borders, and Ornamental Stitches)

Figure 5 – Maria – is now finished.
