Advent Calendar 2018 – No. 21

To give you a chance to embroider different last-minute ornaments, one more angel is made to be cut out – again swathed in warm garments.

The design measures about 12 cm X 11 cm. It was stitched on Weddigen linen with a 13.5/cm thread count.

The halo was made like a hat.

The wings are filled with Cone (Limetrosen I).

The dress was embroidered with Wave stitches with one double Satin stitch bar in the middle.

Boiled, starched, ironed, and cut out this winter angel decorates green branches as an ornament.

It is possible to work all the nice little angels featured in the pattern collection Advent Calender 2018 on a band, either horizontally – as shown here – or vertically.

Of course also all cut out angels can be used to accommodate the tablecloth for all seasons to the Christmas time.

One more angel is made to be cut out. This one is cocooned for the winter with long gloves and a bobble hat.

The design measures about 7 cm X 9.5 cm. It was stitched on Weddigen linen with a 13.5/cm thread count.

The wings are filled with Wing stitch (Early Schwalm Whitework) using coton à broder No. 16.

The bobble hat made hair unnecessary – only the face was outlined with Stem stitches.

The dress was embroidered with Honeycomb Darning stitches and bordered at the top with two single Satin stitch bars.

Boiled, starched, ironed, and cut out the winter angel decorates green branches as an ornament.

Later this ornament will also be hung on the Christmas tree in white.

It is still possible to get this easy and quick to stitch figure finished for this year´s Christmas! It’s fun to have a tree decorated with many handmade ornaments. The design is part of the large pattern collection Advent Calender 2018. Did you order it already?

Advent Calendar 2018 – No. 19

A large unfussy angel enchants with unobtrusive elegance. The design comes from Irmgard Mengel, who is also a very experienced embroiderer. And the design is embroidered perfectly!

The design measures about 21 cm X 17 cm. It is stitched on linen with a 16/cm thread count. The large shapes provide enough space for beautiful filling patterns.

The hairstyle is worked with random straight stitches.

The wings are filled with pattern 471.

The top part of the dress is filled with Four-Sided stitches.

The coat is worked with Double Back stitches (Stars).

The skirt is embroidered with Little Stars and Rose stitches – pattern 13 (Stars). The skirt edge is decorated with interlaced Herringbone stitches.

Advent Calendar 2018 – No. 18

At first the angel with the shawl looks a little bit severe.

The design measures about 10 cm X 14 cm. It was stitched on handwoven linen with an 18/cm thread count.

The hairstyle was worked with half-eyelet scallops.

The wings were filled with Rose stitches (Basic Principles of Schwalm Whitework).

Magic net (Limetrosen I) was worked in the dress.

Because of the simple motif and the strict pattern of the dress, this angel ended up looking austere.

My graphic designer had an idea and added two more parts on each wing like a windmill.
These additional shapes were worked as outlines bringing to mind children lying on their backs and making angel figures in the snow.

Now this angel looks more pleasant, I think.

Advent Calendar 2018 – No. 17

Today another candlelabra angel is featured. It looks like the little sister of the typical calendabra angel from the Ore Mountains.

The design measures about 10 cm X 13 cm. It was stitched on linen with a 13.5/cm thread count.

The little candles and the hands were embroidered with Satin stitches. The glow of the candle was depicted with Coral Knot stitches.

So that the pattern would also look nice in the small sleeves, I looked for one with segments (part of the pattern that is repeated to create the pattern) that were not too wide. I chose grid with crosses (Lesson #2).

A Chain stitch pattern matches the shape of the wings very well. To get an orderly appearance, it is best to draw a light pen line in the middle of the wing from top to bottom following the curve (I accidentally deleted the corresponding pictures from my camera!). All Chain stitch rows are worked from top to bottom, starting with the middle row and working outwards to both sides.

Of course the outside rows will be shorter to match the shape.

The hair was stitched with 2 strands of 6-ply stranded cotton.

This nice design is also part of the just published collection Advent Calendar 2018.
